This special event with Hito Steyerl, a leading figure in contemporary art, is centered around the video installation Mechanical Kurds<\/em>, currently on view in the Galerie Carr\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will begin with screenings of two video works selected by the artist : <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Moderated by Mathilde Roman and Marie-Ann Yemsi, the discussion will provide insight into the artist\u2019s working methods\u2014particularly her documentary research process\u2014as well as into a body of work that, for over twenty years, has resonated with contemporary political and technological issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The conversation will focus in particular on Hito Steyerl\u2019s singular reflection on techno-political systems, and the way her works highlight modern forms of warfare, systems of control, the militarization of technology, as well as the tensions at play within societies shaped by the invisible infrastructures of digital capitalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Hito Steyerl<\/strong> (born in 1966 in Munich)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    A German artist, filmmaker, and theorist. Her work explores the relationships between the circulation of images, power, and contemporary technologies. Trained in documentary filmmaking and philosophy, she has been developing a hybrid practice since the 2000s that combines visual essays, video installations, and critical speculation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


    Her work has been the subject of numerous international exhibitions, notably at the Venice Biennale (2019), the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2020), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (2022), MAK Contemporary, Vienna (2025), and the Fondazione Prada, Milan (2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Mathilde Roman<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Holds a PhD in Art and Art Theory, and is a philosopher and author. She has been a professor of art history at the Pavillon Bosio (Art & Scenography, Monaco) since 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
