A new kind of institution<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Under the stewardship of the Ministry of Culture, and a legal entity affiliated with the Universit\u00e9 C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur since 2020, Villa Arson was conceived in the 1960s by Andr\u00e9 Malraux, then Minister of Cultural Affairs, as part of a wide-reaching program of cultural decentralisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its inauguration in 1972, it has established itself as a pioneering institution fulfilling a number of critical and complementary functions that foster creativity, including teaching, research, experimentation, production, dissemination, value creation and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Villa Arson\u2019s uniqueness also lies in the intersection of its diverse spheres of activity \u2014 a school, art center and library, plus a research and residency hub \u2014 creating a fertile ground for creative cross-pollination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school is home to approximately 230 students and a single department, dedicated to the arts, which caters to a broad spectrum of disciplines and practices. The art center runs an exhibition program that is open to international artists and prioritises emerging talent. In keeping with its global scope, Villa Arson also hosts artists-in-residence year-round, connecting students to multi-faceted creative scenes and enhancing their own artistic projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Villa Arson is classified as a \u201cHistorical Monument\u201d and has also been awarded the \u201cRemarkable Contemporary Architecture\u201d label.<\/p>\n\n\n

Architecture<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Set on Saint-Barth\u00e9lemy hill, Villa Arson lies on a vast estate of more than two hectares (almost five acres) boasting a superb panorama of the city of Nice and the Baie des Anges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
